Flashdance by Mundania Horvath
“This window display features prints designed by artist Mundania Horvath based on Flashdance, which premieres at Heinz Hall, January 1 – 6, 2013.
Horvath explains:
As a female artist who grew up alongside of steel mills and the industrial factories that made Western Pennsylvania thrive at one time, I have always been inspired by the movie Flashdance and its main song by Irene Cara. I was only five when it came out into the theaters so I didn’t completely understand the entire story line. I picked up on the strong female character lead Alex and was amazed to see a woman working in a steel mill. I had never seen that before! That always stayed with me and became one of my favorite movies from the 1980’s.
At the beginning of 2012, I was driving home from work and the song “What a Feeling” came on the radio. Something struck a chord with me. As I was listening to the lyrics even more closely the song inspired me to create a poster that featured the line “Take your passion and make it happen.” As an artist and someone that is surrounded by friends with different dreams and aspirations, that line is something everyone can relate to.
